It ended up being a tempest of set which has been a blast, but the guild I am in needs a Priest of Mitra so I decided to re-roll and am almost to level cap with a bit of help from the guild.

Overall my impressions of this game have not diminished, but they are certainly better than what I would have expected from reading some of the dribble on the web. First and foremost, leveling is easy on the PVE servers, plenty of quests, very little grinding now and a lot of instance groups once you hit around 30 on up. There is no huge need for the latest and greatest gear and people seem generally willing to help each other.

Endgame is rather nice as well; there are several raid instances that are farmed by guilds and pugs alike. They are on a once a week timer, where as the single group instances have no timers on them, it is run it as often as you would like zones which is nice if you need to farm for items.

Player crafted items are very useful and I have found crafting leveling to be fairly rewarding for the most part. It is not the best, but it is not the worst out there. With very little grinding involved in it.

I am impressed with the game so far, it has provided a lot of things to do with continued additions coming down the line.
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com0http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/04/home-on-set.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357991793967296770.post-17696185623282776372009-03-24T11:17:00.001-05:002009-03-24T11:18:37.804-05:002009-03-24T11:18:37.804-05:00Global = Barrens ChatYep that is right, in fact Global chat in AOC is worse than Barrens Chat in WOW, which is kind of hard to achieve considering the poor choice in topics there. At least it is entertaining.
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com2http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/03/global-barrens-chat.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357991793967296770.post-54709058408481193692009-03-24T10:57:00.003-05:002009-03-24T11:16:49.015-05:002009-03-24T11:16:49.015-05:00Closing in on level 80So, like all games you try and hit level cap as quick as possible so that you can get a real feel for what the game is like. I am sitting at just over 4 days played total and I am close to level cap. In War, it took a similar amount of time, and even in WOW is was close, but there seems to be a greater feeling of accomplishment with the higher number that AOC provides.

Now there is more to level in War then just hitting level cap, there is renown rank, which AOC does have PVP rank, but it seems to be way less important than hitting RR 80 in War. Ontologically, they are focusing on different areas. Where as War focuses on getting your character to 40 then the real grind begins because the best items are PVP related and earned, AOC has the PVP caveat for those who like it, but that are encapsulated in a raiding environment where PVP is not the core.

In both instances you will end up doing the same thing over and over, but in War you will end up doing that substantially quicker due to the limited scope that endgame seems to focus on. Now with the huge expansion on the horizon that might change, but that is still a ways off and it could be the Trials of Atlantis that plagued DAOC being brought to war. I say that lightly, but we are not 6 months after release and we have seen several huge promise that where made by Mythic broken.
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com0http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/03/closing-in-on-level-80.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357991793967296770.post-78114013232413071122009-03-19T09:27:00.003-05:002009-03-24T11:16:59.452-05:002009-03-24T11:16:59.452-05:00Tempest of set, and leveling in AOCSo when I started out playing AOC a couple of weeks ago my buddy fatpork was coming over with me. He decided that he was going to roll a necromancer, so that was off the table so I tried out a few classes over a couple of days while he got the game downloaded and installed. First I tried the demonologist, your basic heavy direct damage/aoe DD caster class. It has low survivability but hits like a Mac truck. You get a naked succubus, or partially clothed incubus if you are into a guy trailing you around. Overall, I enjoyed the class, but I was not interested being so dependent on potions and healers.

The next class I played was a Herald of Xolti, this class I know will be my first alt, she was so much fun it was staggering. I read on AOC Forums

This is not a class I would recommend for beginners, it has a limited number of tools to deal with most situations and PvP. If you're looking for AE damage with more survivability and versatility, the overwhelming consensus is to play a Tempest of Set. If you're a masochist, want a little extra damage, and if a fire-slinging, sword-wielding, crocs-wearing battlemage sounds fun to you, roll up a HoX.

That just struck me, a melee mage that has almost the best of both worlds, of course there is the huge weakness in being a clothie, but you get a self restoring shield and so on. I passed on this for now since I would be grouping with a buddy, and there was only one other class that just stuck in my mind.

The tempest of set and healers in general in AOC are probably the best healers of any game I have ever seen. You can heal moderately well, and you can dps like any other dps class. In some cases, priest of mitra, you have a ton of CC as well. There are down sides, you have little survivability, healing in AOC is not like healing in other games where you can full heal yourself with one spell, it takes a lot of work, so you have to live by killing.

Onto the tempest, tempests are aoe healers and very heavy aoe dps. They can put out very high numbers if speced properly, and can heal very well while doing it. I chose this class largely because I like the idea of being able to heal well and dps well all in one package. It is Shadow Priest 2.0 + extras. Being that AOC relies a lot of group pulls of mobs and so on the aoe ability is key to leveling quickly, and with my buddy at the helm of a necromancer we are off.

I will give more details soon a few notes.
AOC so far is a great game, a lot of the commotion that was around when it was released has been fixed and the game is on much better footing.
Classes in AOC in some cases are very different and in others are very similar to what you have seen before.
Combat is very interactive for melee classes, you have to control combos, actively block, positions and so on to be effective, which is something button mashing games don't offer.
Finally, the graphics are amazing, as I have been leveling I have seen oceans with tropics, to the frozen tundra’s, in some areas it makes Crysis graphics look weak.
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com0http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/03/tempest-of-set-and-leveling-in-aoc.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357991793967296770.post-66974902976352471632009-03-17T10:09:00.002-05:002009-03-17T10:20:54.206-05:002009-03-17T10:20:54.206-05:00Warhammer and my ending.Well I have not posted in a bit, and when I last posted I was having issues of being burned out on Warhammer and as I have taken my break I have yet to have the desire to go back. There are several reasons why I feel this way. The first of which is that I have seen and done all of the endgame PVE, and to be honest what is there is lackluster and un-polished. They are zones the size of AQ40 with no way for fast transportation, or even original fights. In fact every boss fight is a spank and tank.

Now to the core of the game, PVP. I feel that there was too much of a push to do scenarios. The carrot that was dangled was too great to ignore that you had to go after it which meant that oRVR was left to rot. Additionally even after limiting the number of people in sieges, of which I was a vocal opponent, there is still to much lag and it is not smooth as promised prior to launch. It leaves me with the feeling that there are so many things that are un-kept in this game that should have been looked at and where not. Look at the city siege, doing PVE in order to get to the king in a process that is very one sided on most servers with balance any where form 2:1 to 4:1 ratios.

These are just some notes on why I am not happy with Warhammer. My buddy Fat and I decided to try our AOC since it has been out almost a year and we are having a good time so far, but it has had a year to polish and that is what has happened. Mythic has had almost a year to polish and all they had done is adding content and nerfing classes. I wish you all the best in your adventures.

Happy Hunting
Enslaver
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com9http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/03/warhammer-and-my-ending.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357991793967296770.post-32693078510393247722009-03-08T09:29:00.001-05:002009-03-08T09:30:42.935-05:002009-03-08T09:30:42.935-05:00Open Sunday ThreadJust like last Sunday, it is here again. In addition the cooldown for this item is 15 minutes

This was the new way to get around the terror debuff that was preventing rezzes during boss fights and it has been taken away as well. I have to ask, does Mythic think we are glutens for punishment. I have been in N'kara fights where you get here to 1% she bugs out and 1 shot the group, and others where no matter how much you taunt her wont get off of your healers or dps in the group. So I hope people like the 10 min runs back in the Vale because that is what you get to look foreword to. I have a lot of pity for those of you who did not learn the fights before these changes. It will make things a lot harder.

Suggestions on this would be to A. If you are going to do this, make it so you don't rez in the warcamp outside, have people rez at the spirits in the zone. They can already remove the debuff, so why not have people rez there. B. Allow mounts, give a run speed buff or something to speed up transportation in the zone. C. Fix your buggy bosses. Nothing sucks more than getting a boss to sub 10% only to have them reset on you.
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com0http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/03/3409-hotfixes.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357991793967296770.post-77258781308884134972009-03-05T10:41:00.002-06:002009-03-05T10:44:07.042-06:002009-03-05T10:44:07.042-06:00Lost enthusiasmSo I have lost my enthusiasm to play War, 5 40's several different servers, all of PVE endgame. I took a break from our planned events last night on my knight and I am felling less and less inclined to log back in. I know many others have gone through this, how do you get through this. What makes you come back day after day?
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com8http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/03/lost-enthusiasm.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357991793967296770.post-64707250447868513052009-03-04T09:55:00.002-06:002009-03-04T10:02:18.069-06:002009-03-04T10:02:18.069-06:00WCPI: Girl IRLGirl IRL is one of a hand full of blogs primarily written from the woman’s perspective. Her latest post, Bucket List, touches on some very fun things, and goals that I personally skimmed over in my race to endgame, but she appears to be a bit more determined to enjoy and complete a few things on her journeys.

One of her more interesting points is:

As I mentioned in a previous post, I have this horrible habit of making friends with players who decide to stop playing or change their play times shortly after I meet them. Because I am fairly certain that my characters don’t have body odor problems and because I know I was perfectly cordial and cooperative with these players, I can only assume it’s a freaky coincidence. Through doing more group content and more oRvR I hope to make nice with at least a few consistent players. I love playing in a duo with Boyfriend, and our friend makes for a fun trio, but it would be nice to have a large group of buddies with whom we can form scenario premades or hit BO objectives/PQs/instances. We may go about completing this entry to the bucket list by joining some of our characters to a larger guild, while leaving an alt in charge of The Devious Morticians, though this hasn’t been discussed at length.

A lot of us take for granted the people we meet in online games, but she seems to be making it a point of finding some new faces to keep playing with. I think that this is one of the key elements of her post, yes talisman crafting is important, but MMO's are about adventures with friends and if you don't have any to run around with, then you are paying to play a single player game.

All in all she has so very good commentary and well worth checking out the other sex’s perspective on a male dominated playing field.
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com1http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/03/wcpi-girl-irl.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357991793967296770.post-80011391942941280812009-03-04T09:46:00.002-06:002009-03-04T09:52:12.197-06:002009-03-04T09:52:12.197-06:00Initial impressions of 1.2Well I did not get to try all that I wanted to, in fact nothing except the Lost Vale. First and foremost I appear to be taking way less damage on my Knight which was an issue I was seeing prior to the patch. Additionally, I never ran out of AP with bellow commands on, that and auras do not affect GCT. So that is really nice, I had not seen that in the patch notes, but it was a nice exchange for the nerf of shield of the sun.

Now on to the Vale, drops seemed to be fairly steady. Our witch hunter scored him one of the new 1-handers that have the effect:
5% chance to proc a 45% snare and deal 119 dmg over 10 seconds.
That is a very, very nice proc for a 1-hander. Then of course the darkpromise drops seemed to be substantially steadier. I can not comment on the whole zone since we called it a night after the butcher, but I will get back with you all when we finish it.

Tonight we push a zone so I will be able to tell you all about that as well as the new scenario.
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com0http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/03/initial-impressions-of-12.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357991793967296770.post-3232569790043368802009-03-03T08:12:00.002-06:002009-03-03T08:18:21.369-06:002009-03-03T08:18:21.369-06:00New Recruit a Friend RewardsMythic has added to their recruit a friend program by adding that if you are able to get 2 people to sign up and become paying subscribers, they will give you an in game pet. I am in no way happy with the changes to Alter Fate, this was already a gimp ability only to get nerfed even more. Then adding a 2 second timer to shield of the sun, an ability with a 20 second cool down, and 10 second buff so it will hit a target a max of 5 times. This is a self buff; they did this because they wanted it in line with the chosen s group buff version of the ability which is a joke.

I will post more on this subject either tonight or tomorrow depending on my impressions of the patch on live.
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com0http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/03/12-goes-live.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357991793967296770.post-11898301051258060102009-03-02T08:38:00.002-06:002009-03-02T08:58:32.897-06:002009-03-02T08:58:32.897-06:00Sunday Thread Follow up part 2.Anonymous asked:
"I wouldn’t mind a discussion on tactics in RvR, and especially keep/fortress sieges."

There are a few tactics that can be used in RVR, mind you need to keep a fairly organized force going for it to be successful. Now as the attacker you face many daunting challenges. First is getting through the doors, then it is getting to the lords room. Getting into the doors is straight foreword attack them, but the push to the lords room is where it gets tricky. One option is to use AOE knock back classes and move a tank wall, with one group focusing on the lord the others can kill any enemy players in the room. The next option would be a moral 4 push where everyone unloads a rank 4 moral on a tank wall/support classes and pushes in. These options will more than likely kill most of the tank wall and a good chunk of support. In both cases, you need to be prepared to move as a group and not stop on the stairs. If you stop on the stairs you become a very easy target.

As the defender you get a bit more leeway in terms of what you can do. First set up a good defense on the walls, someone on oil, people repairing the doors, a couple of healers at the door keeping skirmishers up and ranged DPS dropping rocks from the walls. Your first goal is preventing a ram from being put up. This is not to hard to do if you prep before hand, but if it does get up, have your skirmishers hop out kill it and hoop back in. Next have skirmishers and ranged kill all classes that can pull targets to them; Magus, Engineer, White Lion, Marauders. Kill them all then use your pulling classes to get people under the oil and use the oil + rDPS to kill them in swaths. Say they get through the first doors, you can tank wall in a few places and have it be very effective. First at the outer wall door. Tanks stack in the corridor and keep AOE's and Oil a flowing on them as they try and rush in. Next in the main keep door, same as before, AOE's and oil. Finally, and the ever popular lord room defense. Stack 2 tanks walls, one slightly ahead of the first so that they can eat the initial punt and another one is there to keep people out. Have the first one back fill the other line if and when they get knocked back. Have ranged spread out around the stairs and on the upper portions of the room. Healers should do the same; remember that the key is to keep the tank wall up. Now to combat a rank 4 push you need pots, all tanks need them so that when they are blasted they can pot up quick and keep standing, and additionally healers need to be on the ball for this to keep people up. Chances are though, tanks without shield, few wounds and resistances will be dying as well.

In both cases above you are trying to combat, or prevent access to the lord. These work on forts as well, except with more people in most cases. Other things to remember you need to keep people out of the keep. As the attacker you need people guarding the postern doors and kill as many as possible. Preferably out of LOS of healers who might be in the keep, and once you have capped a keep you need to make sure that it is completely clear of all defenders. Remember any class can banner rez people so be wary of the ninja caps. All in all, everything about a keep attack and defense can be tweaked to fit your group of players, but this is just a brief touch on theories for defending and attacking keeps.
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com0http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/03/sunday-thread-follow-up-part-2.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357991793967296770.post-48699547940770425242009-03-02T08:04:00.002-06:002009-03-02T08:17:45.442-06:002009-03-02T08:17:45.442-06:00Sunday Thread Follow up part 1.Inquisitor asked:
"Are Pet classes in WAR overpowered???? In WOW I was always reading complaints that Hunters were overpowered so I wondering if the same were true in WAR."

Well first and foremost I think any class in the right hands is dangerous, but that is a bit beside the point. I do not think that pet classes in war are overpowered. Let’s look at all of them one at a time. First you have the Squig herder, at release they put a ton of emphasis on having a pet with this class, and albeit important, the Squig herder is now deadly with or without one. I feel overall compared to other ranged classes that fall in to the same class at the Squig herder it is substantially better than the shadow warrior, its counter part, but even then it is in line with all other ranged DPS classes.

Next, the white lion. Of all classes with pets this one has the most potential to be way over powered. I think first, that this class is a first ever in MMO's, a melee pet class so it is hard to compare it to others, but I will point out the one ability that makes them a bit over the top. Fetch, in its current form they can grab a target 150 feet away and pull them back to where they are standing. It is being nerfed in the patch coming up to 65 feet, but the ability to bring a target to you it very important. Additionally, white lions who are solo specced, ie without a pet, are substantially more deadly.

Engineer/Magus, now both of these are pet classes of sorts, but their "pets" are stationary turrets. So they are essentially dots with hit points. Both of these classes really only rely on them for that fact, so in that respect I don’t see them as overpowered.

I think the keep difference between the hunter and these pet classes are the utility that they have. A hunter has tons of utility, feign death, traps, and so on that complement the pets, but most of the pet classes in Warhammer can easily be effective without the pet. Now a hunter can be effective without a pet as well, but I feel that the pet for them not only adds to their utility, but also supplies them with a steady source of damage. Additionally I think you have to look at the intended focus of each class, in WOW classes are suppose to be a lot more autonomous and harder to kill overall where as WAR classes are more designed to group and fight in small warbands to monster zergs so they don’t need as many OMG save my ass abilities.
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com2http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/03/sunday-thread-follow-up-part-1.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357991793967296770.post-17209645280355759672009-03-01T09:30:00.003-06:002009-03-01T09:31:58.692-06:002009-03-01T09:31:58.692-06:00Open Sunday ThreadI am going to take a page from another blog that I read a fair amount, Tobold's, and open this Sunday up to anything. The biggest one I wanted to see in action was my Alter Fate. Now if you remember when the game was released we where told that rank 4 morals where suppose to be huge battle changing abilities that should not be easy to obtain. Well they are moderately easy to obtain, but they are tide changing. Well the current plan with 1.2 is to change it so that alter fate no longer works in boss/lord fights.

Now the first thing that comes to mind is WTF we have an extremely gimped moral that now servers no purpose. This things start to add up, 10 min run back to N'kara in vale for a simple mistake that would have been easily rescuable with an alter fate. Boss fights that enrage after X amount of time and you lose a DPS'er early in the fight and so on. This will kill PVE progression, and really kills this abilities role. In fact there is no reason to have this ability if it is going to go live, I would suggest looking for another rank 4 if they do not change this.

I believe that Mythic's logic on this was or make it harder to defend/attack fortresses, but in effect they have also killed PVE at the same time, and really turned an already weak rank 4 into a crappy aoe rez. I think that the current incantation of alter fate should stay. You don’t get pulled to the healer; you don’t get full health on rez. It just helps give me the further impression that Mythic hates healers, buffs to damage mean nerfs to healing. A huge nerf to a rez that all healers get is a huge nerf the survivability of groups.
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com2http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/02/alter-fate-12-patch-woes-keep-coming.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357991793967296770.post-27038310007692270792009-02-27T10:08:00.002-06:002009-02-27T10:18:20.158-06:002009-02-27T10:18:20.158-06:00Pushing the cityWell tonight starts our first organized push across multiple alliances. The past few pushes have started just within the alliance and snow balled up and into the city, but tonight will be different.

Back story:
So a while ago one of the big guilds on the server started to snuff us, because we are good at what we do, or egos or whatever. So their leader left and new leadership has stepped up to take over and wants to play nice now since they realize that there will not be an effective push without our alliance involved. A bit more about our alliance, we are really a guild that we split specialties into different guilds so we can specialize standards, heraldry and so on so people see the Totenrich alliance and think organization. So we have a guild of tanks, healers, mDPS and rDPS. All of the guilds, but our lowbie/alt guilds are level 20+ and a couple of them are almost 30.

Back to what is going on:
So our plan is to start pushing, in fact as I write this at the office, we have people running premades in the zones that we plan on pushing and that is what they are doing all day so that when the guild is on we can start rolling with the punches. At the same time, our new friends are going to start pushing as well and we will probably be rolling at least 2 guild warbands, our friends will have at least 1 warband, and the several puggers’ warbands.

The critical part of this will be communication. It is necessary to coordinate pushes and so on as many of you know, but overall this goes into a deeper subject for those of you on lower population’s servers unlike me where you have to have a lot more friends across the guilds to put something like this together. I would suggest starting a channel where all guild/alliance leadership can talk so people can plan pushes, and try and get a centralized vent.

Overall I think that it will go well. We will have a lot more people on due to Saturday not being a work day for most people and it will provide us and opportunity to test out our new bonds on the server. If things to smooth we will be dinning in the Inevitable City tonight.
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com2http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/02/pushing-city.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357991793967296770.post-57382357948152847192009-02-27T09:29:00.002-06:002009-02-27T09:32:54.877-06:002009-02-27T09:32:54.877-06:00Warhammer LoreSo for those of you who are interested in learning a bit of Warhammer lore, more specifically focused at some of our newer classes should check out War Stories on Mythic's main site. On the flip side I have been a person farming people at a warcamp, so why do people let this happen. There are very few zones that I have been to that are hard to get into from a point outside of the warcamp.

Last night was a good example of this, we mustered up the Havoc warband because we where sure there would be a shinning way fort defense, so we did a call to arms and everyone stopped PVE'ing and so on joined our warband and we formed up at shinning way. Destruction had 2 warbands farming the warcamp, so we went through Altdorf to get to shinning way. People kept saying in local that they where still getting farmed at the warcamp, so we pushed and capped the east BO and stopped all of this.

Knowing that the only way to flip a zone is to get kills in RVR, win scenarios, and cap all of the objectives, people consistently will sit at the warcamp and run out like lemmings getting farmed for hours just for a shot at getting 1 kill instead of going through the PVE zone, crossing the RVR boundary and stealing a BO and setting back a push. This is what happens at every destruction push, order lets themselves get farmed, and conversely, destruction lets themselves get farmed when we are on a push. Hence the saying the best defense is no defense, at least in the current patch environment.

I think that people need to follow some strong leadership and make educated pushes to stop the opposing force from farming you. Split warbands up and send them to different objectives. If anything you will split the opposing force into a more manageable fight. If not you will keep getting stuck between that rock and a hard place and wonder why you keep losing your city.
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com4http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/02/getting-farmed-at-warcamp.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357991793967296770.post-4931671428045053272009-02-26T08:28:00.002-06:002009-02-26T09:40:20.279-06:002009-02-26T09:40:20.279-06:00Character TransfersWell you can now move any level 11 and lower character from any server to any other server for free. This started more for people who where doing the trial, but it applies to those of us who have been playing the game for a while. This means that you can not transfer stuff off of one server to another one and consolidate items, money and so on onto the server where you predominately play at.
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com0http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/02/character-transfers.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357991793967296770.post-64719244069419655542009-02-25T11:27:00.002-06:002009-02-25T11:36:24.008-06:002009-02-25T11:36:24.008-06:00Diluting classesThis is something that I am seeing happen more and more as patches are pushed out, classes are being diluted. In some cases the class you rolled at the start of the game is a distant visage of what it is currently, but more importantly is the disparity between classes.

Slowly classes are becoming one in the same. Like when WOW released, each side had a defining class, aka Shaman and Paladin, well in War, every class was different, some had similar mechanics, but abilities and areas of focus/expertise where different. Now what is happening is that classes are becoming exact mirrors of their counterpart, just with a different game.

This is making me concerned since this game was about diversity and how groups interact on the battle field, not each group will be the same with just different class names. This I am seeing prevalent with 1.2a, where Chosen are being given many of the class defining abilities of the Knight, where as the Knight is being left almost untouched, and this is a problem across the board. Without some difference the game loses its luster and really makes me question why I play it. Now I enjoy the game and the people I play with, but I did not start playing War to be just another face in the crowd. When I walk onto the battle field I want someone to shit their pants.

I think that this is getting taken away from it. At the heart of it could be the new classes. Something new and shinny and to pull people away from the tried and true current classes, get them to play something different, but even then that will be the fate for the Choppa and slayer if things do not get turned around. There needs to be class definition, there needs to be a difference between, say a zealot and a runepriest, not just mirrors of each other with different class names and different ability names.
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com0http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/02/diluting-classes.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357991793967296770.post-780543543929270502009-02-25T09:39:00.003-06:002009-02-25T10:11:04.813-06:002009-02-25T10:11:04.813-06:001.2a in depth Knight changesFirst off all of these are my opinions on this subject, so heed that accordingly.
*
On Your Guard!: The damage of this ability has been increased and will now deal Elemental damage. The ability will not receive benefits from stat factor nor will it do critical damage.
***After getting to actually see this in action, I think that this is a poor idea. First and foremost, the fact that this can now be mitigated and it can only hit a target once every 2 seconds means that point for point, the damage of this will do down. Conversely more and more Knights will stop using it because of its lackluster performance in favor of other options in our buffing arsenal.

*
All Out Assault: The damage of this ability has been increased and will now deal Elemental damage. The ability will no longer receive benefits from stat factor nor will it do critical damage.
***Once again, we are dealing with a low damage ability that went from being non-mitigatable to being a slightly more damage than before, non-scaling, manageable aura. This will make this option obsolete as well, especially as people gear up, they will have less and less of a need to use this ability, yet again killing another "class defining" aura.

*
Shield of the Sun: The damage of this ability has been increased and will now deal Elemental damage. The ability will no longer receive benefits from stat factor nor will it do critical damage.
***This ability suffers from what the above two suffer from, the fact that the change to elemental damage is now mitagatable for this ability and it is still tethered to the previous change in 1.2 that made it so it will only deal damage to a target once every two seconds making this almost worthless. Although it will still be on the tool tip it has lost almost any use during PVP and has little use during PVE.

*
Shield of the Sun: Multiple Knights with this ability up will no longer prevent each other from dealing damage to the same target.
***Ok, this should have already been like this.

*
Shining Blade: The disorient associated with this ability has been removed. This ability will now reduce incoming damage on the Knight by 15% for 10s. The cost has been lowered on this ability.
***This is good and bad, first we lose our only disorient ability and it is not being replaced, but we are getting a damage mitigation ability that we desperately need because we are lacking hugely on the PVE tanking side of the house.

*
Myrmidia's Fury: The cost and damage have been increased on this ability.
***Still does sub-par damage competed to just doing 2 GTC attacks and auto attacking, couple that with the fact that it needs to be channeled, it is not worth it.

*
Press the Attack: The cost of this ability is now free.
*
Stand Strong!: The cost of this ability is now free.
*
Gather Your Resolve!: The cost of this ability is now free.
*
On Your Guard!: The cost of this ability is now free.
*
Stay Focused!: The cost of this ability is now free.
*
All Out Assault!: The cost of this ability is now free.
*
To Glory!: The cost of this ability is now free.
*
To Victory!: The cost of this ability is now free.
*
Now's Our Chance!: The cost of this ability is now free.
***All of the above auras being free, it is nice, but it further puts the knight into a buff bot role by really solidifying that is what we are suppose to be doing. I am fine with twisting 3 auras and I think adding the no cost to them as a nice touch in a limited AP game, but it does not address the lacking that we have in terms of class definition.

*
Bellow Commands: This tactic will now restore 5 action points per second to the Knight for each Command the Knight is running.
***We not have infinite AP and further solidify triple twisting. While I do it now, I use macros and twister to keep 3 going, and being able to effectively RVR and PVE, which is where hundreds of things are going on at once and you are stuck worrying about buffs. Change it so that the mechanic is not used best with an add-on, make twister a part of the Warhammer UI, and polish it. Make it easier for people to twist three auras since that is clearly the route that Mythic is pushing us.

Final thoughts, the most concerning thing that I am seeing coming with 1.2a is that chosen are getting a huge buff, and knights are an after thought. Prior to this and even in it s current form knights are under performing on both the PVE and PVP side. Our damage is poor for PVP, we take substantially more damage than other tanks in PVE, which is a huge problem, and we are stuck sitting as buff bots. In fact that is the only reason I am in a Vale group right now is because they wanted my buffs, if not they would have taken another DPS.

For being a class that came along substantially later in the game and had time to be polished, we have yet to receive it; in fact most of our class definition is being lost, while the chosen is getting problems fixed, and more added to them. This leaves the knight in a bad state as of now, and hopefully gets addressed before 1.2a comes out.
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com0http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/02/12a-in-depth-knight-changes.htmltag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1357991793967296770.post-83936321050872530942009-02-25T09:05:00.001-06:002009-02-25T09:07:06.021-06:002009-02-25T09:07:06.021-06:00ChangesAs you can see on the site I have been making a few changes over the last few days. One of Dont's most recent posts, 5 ways of asking for heals. He goes into the ways that people will go from blatantly rude, to honesty in requesting some attention from a healer. His article really goes at the heart of etiquette that is required when you are playing any game that is reliant on other classes for survivability.

Beyond that he covers a broad swath of things that are going on in Warhammer and lets you know how it is relevant to you, from screen shots to commentary, Blame the Healer covers it all.
This article was taken from Asuryan's Flames
Enslaverhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18051463747259655899noreply@blogger.com0http://www.asuryanflame.com/2009/02/wcpi-blame-healer.html
